The big move on Sunday!
It's finally arrived! Leaving for Toronto on Sunday to be reunited with other half (who still hasn't found a job) after leaving him in August. Can't wait to get there, just having a nightmare packing with only 40kgs allowance for 5 year old and I. Am going to have to send at least one bag with the firm excess baggage - quoted me just under £150 for 30 kg, which is half the cost of airline charges, just have to wait 7-10 days to have it. Has anyone had experience using them??
Only one more stress - the pr cards where sent last week on a three day guaranteed delivery for over $50, but no sign of them as yet. Apparently they arrived in uk office today, so fingers crossed they'll arrive tomorrow. If not hope airline will accept our landing papers from august. For those still waiting (esp those in 2007 queue) good luck when it happens. For those landing soon - our experience was very smooth - it took us a lot longer to open a bank account ( although I strongly recommend talking to James at Scotiabank in old oakville) and don't get me started on mobile phone contracts... |

If you dont get the cards in hand on time its probably best not to go out of your way to point out to the airline that you dont have them and get into that whole discussion unless absolutely necessary. Let them assume you are visiting rather than returning residents, then they wont have to worry about why you dont have the PR card. Only if it comes up resort to pointing out the landing papers, as really the airline relies on the PR card or the fact you are a british visitor travelling under the visa waiver program. Dont get me wrong, I dont expect it to be a problem, so dont panic or anything, but better to let them assume you are like all the other visitors unless it cant be avoided. |

Re: The big move on Sunday!
Who are you flying with? Air Canada allow you to take an extra bag for $50.00 each, I think you are only allowed 1 each unto max 23kg each. You can not pre book it, but pay at airport. We had 6 large suitcases between 3 of us plus hand luggage when we moved over in august. It cost us aroun £100 for the 3 extra bags.
