beurocracy rules!!!

:eek:Just thought I'd share my elation that finally I have made some progress with regard to my temporary nurse registration in BC!!

To cut a long story, job due to start North Van july 2008, application for nurse registration went in May, still waiting for application to go before the assessor panel October. Was banging my head against the wall as had reached stalemate with it. Caught between two jobs worths. One at my university where I did my training who swore she had sent all required documentation as requested, and one at the nurse registraion offices in Vancouver who swore she had not received.

Finally persuaded UK university lady to send them again which she did accompanied by a really sarcastic bitchy letter to the lady at BC nurse registration, and for a few sticky days I thought that the latter was going to dig her heals in and deny all knowledge again in retaliation for the sarcasm. However had heard to day from bc nurse registration that my application has at last been sent to the assessors, so we should hear shortly whether or not I have been accepted!!

Don't you just love beurocracy (or however you spell it!) That seems to be one thing that doesn't differ on either side of the pond!!!

Sounds like you have been really unlucky, I've gone through the process in Alberta and they have been so helpful with me. Even down accepting other references as my employer was being a to***r.

Well perhaps crazy is an over dramatic,

Don't get me wrong nurses do a hell of a job and should be paid well.

To become an electrician you need to serve an apprenticeship which on average is 4 to 5 years during this period you are paid peanuts.
In the construction trade an electrician is the thinker the specialist and maybe the most highly qualified trade on site. Everyday you deal with potentially lethal contact with electricity in confined spaces in exposed locations and often to a strict deadline.
Without electricians the human race would return to the dark ages (I remember the black outs of the 70's).

Have you any idea what nurses do? They don't just stand around and hold your hand and clean bedpans.

To become a nurse they have to go to university for four years and they don't get paid, they have to pay for it.

Sorry but I think they're worth way more than any electrician.:p

As Steve said to become a nurse you have to enrol in University for 3 yrs (diploma) or 4 yrs (degree). I couldn't afford to do the degree so I did my diploma in mental health because I was paid a bursary of £360/month to do it.

At todays pay a newly qualified nurse will be paid £18 039 ( http://www.rcn.org.uk/support/agenda...itions/pay2006 ).

Nurse have to study throughout their career to enable then to register yearly (which costs money), quite often at their own expense and in their own time. Last year I was fortunate and went on a funded place for my degree, I had to work full time and complete all the degree modules assignments in the evening and at the weekend. I am trying to complete my dissertation module now and then I should finally have my degree 12 years after starting my training. Personally I wish I didn't have to do it, but having a degree in nursing is now expected rather than optional.

As a nurse you don't just get to go home either, you take your work home with you. In my role (Child & Adolescent Mental Health) I constantly worry about the kids in my care, have I done everything I can to make sure they are safe, will I come in to work and find out one of them has done something or killed themselves?

You also have to do this whilst trying to keep yourself safe (I've had serious threats made against me this week), just ignore abuse that comes your way on a regular basis and manage the frustrations of bubureaucracy which constantly prevents you from doing what is best for the people in your care, whilst being the lowest paid public sector worker.

I personally welcome the fact that Canada appreciates it's nurses.
