Best way to ring Canada from the UK
Hi
I have tried to search but haven’t come across anything!
I just wondered if there is a way to ring Canadian numbers from the UK without it costing around £3 per minute?
Any help appreciated!

Can't you use a VOIP service like Skype? I use Face time audio for most overseas calls these days.
2 pence per minute using this service

Hi thank you for coming back so quickly! We were just thinking in terms of ringing employers after sending a resume or application which wouldn’t be done through Skype or FaceTime.

I did a Google and there are loads of cheap options. I remember my Wife buying phone cards for a tenner and using those to call home when we lived in the UK.
I can't believe people pay 3 quid a minute when sites like this exist https://www.planet-talk.co.uk/app/ca...ationall-calls

We found a couple of cheap options but that was 10 years ago. You dialled an 0845 number then the Canadian number. So it just cost the price of a local call...

you can make calls to a landline via Skype. I've no idea how much it costs though I'm sure you could easily look it up..

Also some mobile contracts do allow you to call certain countries for free these days and Canada is often on the list because it's a cheap destination to call anyway so it might be worth checking out your tariff.

Calling Canada through Skype is US 2 cents per minute but that applies regardless of where you are in the world. Normally you just top it up with a small amount and then use that balance.

I use an app called Local Phone - I am calling from Canada to the UK but it seems to be a UK based company so probably works the other way. It costs me 0.6c per minute to call UK landline on my cellphone - I pay this to Local Phone which translates the international call into a local one as far as my phone is concerned- as I have free local calls on my cell I don't pay anything else. Obviously if I had limited calling under my cell plan then there would be a potential cost then. Its 2.3c a minute to call a UK cellphone.

I use the Talk 360 app - longest phone call I’ve had on it so far is 23 min which cost £0.74.

On a related note, how have you guys handled your employment status on your resume? I'm guessing when you were applying for jobs from the UK, you were still employed in the UK at the time?
My concern is sending in a resume with a Canadian phone number and correspondence address but that also says my current job is in another country. In my line of work (IT), application follow up calls aren't really a thing and in fact most people rarely use the phone at all. Generally you just email or submit an online application or you put your details on a job board and headhunters/agencies contact you.
Thanks

I was wary of 1) not getting an interview because we weren't already in the country and 2) possibly getting one but not being able to attend because of the 2-week quarantine requirement.
I decided to hit the ground hard with applications during quarantine.

I didn't apply for any jobs when we were still in the UK but I had already done a little bit of networking to line up some meetings/calls for when we arrived.
I was wary of 1) not getting an interview because we weren't already in the country and 2) possibly getting one but not being able to attend because of the 2-week quarantine requirement.
