From Berkshire to BC
Hello! Right this is the first time using a forum so bear with me! I am a Canadian living in Britain, I was born in Vancouver and lived there till I was 3 years old. I have lived in Britain since I was 11 years old and I am now returning to BC with my wife and 1 year old son. We are planning to settle in Victoria, on Vancouver Island, where my parents recently retired. I love the location and the lifestyle, the only minor worry is work!! I am a technical draftsman and would like to take this oppurtunity to make a career change, unless I find a long term drafting position. My wife is a Radiotherapist (treatment of cancer) and I believe her position is in high demand in Canada.
Can anyone tell me about what it's like to work in Canada, is the workplace very different from the UK ie. behaviour, work ethic, working week etc.. I keep getting visions of having difficulties in finding employment because of strange UK qualifications, any experiences of this?? |
Re: From Berkshire to BC
I can give you some comments regarding your wife's work.
If she is a medically qualified radiotherapist, then yes her skills are in demand. However, the Canadians have a huge amount of red tape to wade through, and may not recognise her qualifications to even allow her to sit the higher exams (FRCR, CCST equivalent) which will allow her to practice anywhere in BC. Check out http://www.healthmatchbc.org http://www.medhunters.com/customPage...x47812651.html feel free to pm me about this if you wish, I have recently just navigated through this maze. Matt
