BC nurses
 

Hi all,

We are currently in the beggining stages of plans to relocate to BC. We allready emmigrated 7 years ago to Nova Scotia .I have been looking to jobs on vancouver island, but nearly every RN job seems casual, and if I am relocating I need permanent employment. Are there any island nurses on here that can give me any further information about applying and getting a job on the island. Any input greatly appreciated

Secondly, is there an epidemic of nurses leaving NS for BC lately? It's just that you're not the first one to post about this in the past fortnight. Why? Is it the working conditions over there?

Lol, nothing to do with poor nursing, I love my job, just not in love with the ice and snow in ns lol

This winter was a bad winter in NS, that must be the reason :lol:



My daughter has lived there since 1999


She thinks that the problem this year is that the forecasters said it was going to be a mild winter .................


In fact it has been ............... the temperature has not been anywhere near as cold as in previous winters.

But the problem is that the temperature has been down to around 0C .............. which means freezing rain and ice, rather than snow.

So ............. she has been dealing with heavy wet snow that has frozen, rather than the softer lighter stuff of previous winters.

And people did not expect that ............ they thought it was going to be more like a BC winter


We were there over last Christmas. It is the first time in 10 years that we have been there for Christmas when I have not had to wear boots and trousers most (if not all) the time ............. I was able to wear my preferred skirts and brogue-type shoes.

The weather indeed has been just awful, snow, freezing rain, ice.....the works. The roads have been a mess, our driveway has been a nightmare.

Yesterday I slipped on the ice and really hurt my back, I am still in pain.......I am done with NS winters!!!!

I have a great nursing job here, just a 5 minute drive away, it fits in with my home life and my husband has a wonderful here job too, but at this point in time I have had enough of NS weather and I am starting to feel trapped here so we are researching the possibilities of a move to BC too!

yeah, that sounds brutal. This winter has been so mild in Vancouver, I was able to walk the dog in just a t-shirt, jeans etc on the weekend. I sometimes think I don't live in Canada when it's wintertime and see my friend's posts about snow, cold etc ;)

When I applied for my RN from the UK, I contacted the recruitment department direct to see if they had any vacancies as they weren't advertising. They snapped my hand off and after a 4 question interview over the phone I was offered a job. I worked as an ICU RN for 9 years in the UK before moving to Canada and I still work in ICU now. It seems to be easier to find full time jobs if you work in a specialist area, we'll certainly in Vancouver anyway.
