RBC customer service officers have a degree of discretion regarding limits on withdrawal and credit cards... do you know anyone who has an account with RBC who could act as your 'introducer' to them? As an example, I introduced my sons friend to RBC (having held an account with them for about 2 years at that point) and he was given a $2k credit card from the start - as was my son when he first arrived.

tis weird..when i reopened my account with TD they still had all my old banking records with them..when i left in 2014 i had a TD credit card with a $15k limit and a $12k line of credit (which i had never used)..knowing all this they still turned me down for a even a $1k credit card even with my banking history and knowing my income and always paying off my card in full each month and never missing a payment...because i had been away the computer says no..forget about discretion..even the girl couldn't understand it..even the manager wouldn't authorize a credit card because the computer says no

Thanks for all the replies. I've looked into it more now and I see what some people are saying, my credit utilization has been high, even though I pay it off. I've started transferring money in advance of the payments coming out now, so my card should have a positive balance this month. And as someone else mentioned, apart from a phone plan I only have one credit card, so not much credit. This month's report should come out in a few days so I'll be able to see if this has an impact.

I'm with TD and although the card says 'Visa' on it, it doesn't work for online transactions. The banking rep told me this when I took it out and sure enough it doesn't work when I tried it online. I guess companies see it as an Interac card they can't process.

I'm shocked that $150k salary won't get you any reasonable sort of credit. If it doesn't work for you I don't stand much chance!
