Caught a great CBC 1 hour doc called Lets All Hate Toronto last night - very funny  We're in the process of starting to move to Toronto from Vancouver - so if any of you lot are up for a drink (or 2) in January let me know. I know that my better half would love to connect with some other brits!

Burnt Oak? I am loving North London at the moment, but on the other branch of the Northern Line. Is it worth checking out?

Not if it isn't home.

I don't think one can compare London and Toronto at all. They are two very different places. Lived in London 9 years and in Toronto just over 18 months over all - and it's just like comparing apples and oranges!

What they've done with Toronto is to promote heavily the ethnic sections. That works in Canada because most of the country is so bland. A London council might try similarly promoting the Turkish Delights of Dalston, the grand mosque of Finsbury park and the gefilter fish bars of Golders Green but it'd just seem lame. Those things have always been there. In an old city diversity is usual, not a saleable novelty.

Too late. I was there for a month during July/August 2007 and didn't realise that the sun reflecting off a deck could give me sunburn. I looked like a lobster and spent four days peeling thin layers of skin of my arms - not a pretty sight!

The main advantage was the underground. It takes you anywhere (and has AC) and you can avoid most of the heat.

Funny after living in Montreal of 18 months when I moved to Toronto I found the people very polite:blink: (never been to Vancouver so can't comment)

I know a few people in Vancouver and have seldom met more rude people ever. They are some I would not include in my social life should I end up there.

Unfortunately we are on the same mailing list.

The air in Toronto does smell bad. I understand that the air quality in the Fraser Valley is actually worse when measured in terms of 'pieces of dangerous shit floating in it' but there's no getting away from the fact that Toronto, especially around the Humber and Ashbridge's Bay, stinks to high heaven.

Don't let Guy Lafleur know that.....you are right Thurso does stink...isn't there a sign on the west side warning about reduced visibility for cars (which is caused by the effluent from the pulp and paper mill).

On the plus side for BE people wanting a cheap house in the greater Ottawa area, Thurso is an absolute bargain.
