Default who gets the most snow?

I always thought that places in Alberta and BC up in the mountains would get loads of snow. I was suprised to discover that we actually get quite a lot in Halifax. About 260cm of snow per year which is more than Banff and way more that places like Jasper and most of BC. See http://www.theweathernetwork.com/ind...america#Canada to find out how much snowfall your city gets. Who gets the most? My money is on AX in Newfoundland

We don't have a weather station right by us but this one is within five miles:

http://www.climate.weatheroffice.ec....s=&StnId=4497&

it shows a typical snowfall of 130 1/4 inches. If we had metric snow in rural Ontario that would be over 330cm.

That's right. They have pictures at the museum of a train buried in a 25' drift. I suppose that happens less now there's no railway.

I think a full winter might be challenging.

According to Environment Canada Gander NL is Canada's snowiest city, with 443.1 cm.

I have been around long enough to realise that it's hard to generalise for provinces but that is what the weather office has done.

Here is a link to the page from the Environment Canada Weather Winners Website for provincial rankings. Note Alberta is last.

Other rankings for Cities here The Weather Winners Highlights.

Here you have it from Natural Resources Canada Atlas of Canada Weather.
http://atlas.nrcan.gc.ca/site/englis...erweather.html

Barkerville BC boasts 6m of annual snowfall on their website. Guess nobody could get out to tell the tale.

Very interesting set of numbers going on here.

According to Environment Canada Long term averages Halifax gets 230.5 cm of snow in the average winter.

As you have quoted according to The Weather Network it gets about 260 cm

Yet according to the Environment Canada Weather Winners website (choose Halifax from the drop down menu) it only gets 176.37 cm

This is making me feel all warm and fuzzy - so to speak - not so horrendous after all in sunny ol' Alberta !! And maybe even momentarily smug (till the first snow dump, anyway) ....

According to the Environment Canada Weather winners site once again.

Canada's five snowiest cities (annual snowfall in centimetres) are

Gander NL with 443 cm,
Corner Brook NL with 422 cm,
Sept-Îles QC with 412 cm,
Campbellton NB with 392 cm
Baie Comeau QC with 362 cm.

Of note, Ottawa with an annual average snowfall of 236 cm, is only the 34th snowiest city in Canada, but it remains the snowiest national capital in the world.

I think that Nova Scotia hasn't been having those kinds of winters for awhile. We live on private roads and pay to have them plowed and last year they only plowed twice. We hardly had any snow until the end of the winter then got a few cms twice. Having lived in Ontario and now Ns I always thought Ontario's winter were worse. The climate is changing all over!

Up here in my neck of the woods, Wiarton doesn't do too bad at all - 426.6cm I remember going up there for the Wiarton Willie Festival last year, and the night before the festival was absolutely wild! That's a crazy spot to be in winter, just like everywhere on and directly around the Bruce!
