Average salary for a GP in Canada...?
 

My sister-in-law is marrying a Romanian guy who now lives in Canada. (Don't ask.) :rolleyes:

He is a newly-qualified GP. How much will he be earning? I ask because he has made various claims about his expected salary, and I would be interested to know how realistic they are.

Is he newly qualified in Romania, or newly qualified in Canada?

If hes not qualified in Canada then he gets about $7 an hour minimum wage I expect as its almost but not quite impossible to get on an internship program in canada with foreign medical qualifications.

If hes canadian qualified send him to Belleville, they will tear his arms off in the rush to make him welcome. Presumably short supply translates into handsome salary. Lets just say Ive never seen a local doctor drive a domestic vehicle...unless it was a Cadillac or a Suburban.

Newly qualified in Canada; they moved to Canada many years ago, and he's a Canadian citizen.

Hah! I knew the little scrote was lying! He was talking about a salary of $300,000... :rolleyes:

BTW, what's the tax on an income of $121,567? He lives in Calgary; would that make any difference either way?

Nothing, but so what? There's no law which says I'm not allowed to find out.

I simply want to know if he will be able to support my sister-in-law properly. I now also want to know why he has been lying about his expected salary. :rolleyes:

And before you ask - no, I haven't been asking him about it. He's had no hassle from me or any other member of the family, but he's caused an awful lot of hassle for the rest of us.

His fiance now has doubts about the marriage because he is a very controlling person who doesn't allow her to think or act for herself.

Taxation rates in Canada is a well publicised thing.

Do they love and care for each other is the only thing that matters. Maybe they should just live together for a bit and see if he continues to be an asshole. If they have been living together in canada for a year then they are already legally considered to be a commonlaw couple.

Hes a doctor for gods sake, hes not going to be living on the poverty line no matter how you look at it, and if you have any understanding of statisitics you might realise that he could earn $300k, especially in future in Alberta as they are leading the charge towards private healthcare which would allow him to charge whatever the market will bare. Did it occur to you that he might not intend to spend his entire life in Calgary and that he might do what an increasing number of canadian board doctors do and go to the US at some point, where the potential for doctors earnings is sky high for the top people.

I can understand the protective brother thing to some extent, but back off a bit eh? Im sure shes a big girl and can take care of herself, and even if she cant its her life and her decision. Either they love each other and should get married, or the dont and they shouldnt, what he can earn or says he can earn shouldnt have anything to do with it.

She isn't even his sister, he says it's his sister in law. And what does it take to support her "properly"? Talk about controlling, sheesh.

Not necesarily - I live in rural Northern Ontario and the doctors here are raking it in!! With Northern allowances, traning allowances and annual leave/study leave, doctors have a very nice life, thank you very much! Income about $300K with up to 11 weeks off per annum.

$300,000 for a GP is very, very high. For a specialist sure, but very doubtful for a GP.

I rather doubt a figure of $300,000 for net income, gross income maybe, but not net income before income taxes. Show us the proof.
