ok, we are sick of waiting for PR, so are going out on PNP to Steinbach Manitoba, hopefully the middle of next month, house is sold, and daughter has finished her GCSE's, when we depart are there any authoritied we need to inform that we are leaving the country, hopefully for ever all being well. any thoughts apart from doctors and dentists ???

We went to Steinbach a few weekends ago. It was not like I'd imagined it to be and in the end we decided against stopping. But it's probably a nice place to live, there just seemed to be not much for tourists despite their "It's worth the trip" license plates ;)

Inland Revenue P85 form also inform dept of work and pensions, must be a standard form to use - anybody know that one ?

What would be the advantage of telling the authorities that you've left ?

We just drove to the airport and left the car there with the keys in it. We thought that telling the government we had left would just complicate matters if we went back.

On reflection, I don't really see the need to tell doctors and dentists. The first lot won't come looking for you and the second lot will eventually get tired of sending you reminders.

Maybe a good rule of thumb would be: "does this involve money?"

If you're on the NHS the dentist will keep receiving capitation for you until you fall off his books for failure to attend regularly. So if you don't want to give him/her a few extra pennies be sure and tell them you're leaving. But if they were nice, let it lapse naturally ;)

If you pay tax via PAYE then you probably have overpaid tax so the tax man will probably send you a check.

Correct. I got a refund on my tax the year I migrated. Plus, if you don't tell them, they won't know that you've left. I would suggest signing up an accountant to do your return (split-year treatment etc).

We had the same opinion as Biiiink about Steinbach, until a couple of weeks ago. On a rainy Sunday we went out for a drive, came into Steinbach by a different route and the town was surprisingly large. and we found all the shops ( closed on Sundays very religious area) MacDonald's was open, saw some people praying before tucking in. The town is a dry ( no booze sold in city borders) has large Car and farm sales, but is mainly the centre of a large Mennonite community.

Hope you enjoy your trucking George if it doesn't work out with them TransX is hiring. Met a couple from Scotland that have come over to work for them and apparently they are looking for 60+ drivers.

Nope. Good cars sold replaced by banger a couple of months before leaving. Blue mini, old and in poor shape but you can have it if it's still at LHR.
