On aTWP and health insur...
Hello to all
Can I ask, if hubby comes over on a TWP (with wife & 2 kids in tow) what do we need to look for on a health insurance policy? Coming from the UK, what would be a fair monthly figure for no-frills cover/ As with all thing s the NHS has spoilts us a bit, so can't put a value to, say, a GP visit if lil'one gets an ear infection...and so on. We pay a fixed price of £7.85 per item, for our prescription drugs...non-prescription items such as Paracetamol (around 28p-69p for a basic box of 16 tabs)...does Canada have a similar system for certain stuff. We may have the chance to move to Alberta and it is one of the things on a list that will make a difference.. Many thanks |

I think you are covered from the start but you might have to pay yourself till you get on the system maybe a few weeks then you can claim your money back

Many thanks You may wish to purchase additional insurance for items not covered by Alberta Health if you do not have coverage for these items via your employment. |

We are in Ontario and every Province is different . It seems like in Alberta you might get health care straight away and then it might depend on your work's benefit plan how much you have to pay on top, not sure how it works over there.. Just speaking for Ontario if you get a good work benefit coverage it could be that you only pay 10% max 20% towards drugs, dentist, etc. Doctors covered completely and glasses/contacts 100% every 24 months or every 12% for kids. But then I know employers that will only cover the employee and not the family and only 60% not 90%. Like I said every Province and every employer is different.
