Fifty quid in the great scheme of things that is immigration is small potatoes. Having your medical records will be extremely useful. Pay it and move on.

I agree with the 50 ukp being small fry . I disagree about the usefulness of the records.

we paid 50 ukp each for ours. They are sat unread in our safety deposit box.

Unless you have an ongoing condition , the only useful thing I can think of is vaccination records for children. They'll need these for school

No it doesn't but it does cover you for the visit to the Doctor to get your perscription.

I did not bring any of my records. I went to a drop-in clinnic and was referred to a specialist who ran a number of test before prescribing a course of treatment. They even spent an hour with me explaining my condition the different treatments available and told me what likestyle changes I could make to manage my symptoms.

I did not even know what a spirometer was until I came to Canada.
In the UK I saw the GP, I told him my symptoms, he gave me an Asthma pump and told me to tell him if it helped, when it did he said I had Asthma.

I do not have Asthma, instead I have some type of allergy and after years of problems in the UK I can now breath more easily.

so not having the records is not the end of the world. Asthma is not a complex or difficult to manage condition.

With all due respect, if you dont have asthma, as you claim, you're in no position to comment on it not being a complex or difficult to manage condition.

Your claim that you dont have asthma, but some allergic condition, is naive at best.

With respect, I have 3 children who have had asthma so I think that gives me some understanding of the condition.

The claim about my condition was diagnosed by a Specialist who has had years of experience dealing with this type of condition, and working with people with asthma so I will respect his view. I had difficulties breathing in the UK I can now breath without any issues .. If trusting an experienced prodfessional makes me naive. Well ....

This is comment is very true, before leaving the UK for Canada we managed to get 3 months worth of supply for our daughter and it lasted well over a year.

As said earlier asthma inhalers are on prescription only in BC and be prepared to pay huge sums of money. My wife has 3 different ones, her asthma has actually got worse since being here. One of them is $110 every time we get it, the others are cheaper (i think about $30 each)
We don't have private medical insurance and therefore pay full whack. It is possible to get a reduction if you are on low wages but you have to be earning quite a small amount to really help out.
On the plus side we have a huge sum to offset against our 2010 tax return for prescription drugs and eyecare last year!
