Arriving without a return ticket??
Hi,
We are looking to arrive at the end of june for good with our PRvisa's. We are looking to bring my wife's sister out with us but we've no idea how long for 1 month or 3? so we were just going to get her a one way ticket too and book the return when she had decided to return. Will she get hassled at arrivals seeing as she has no return ticket? Gav. |

Re: Arriving without a return ticket??
we booked return flights with Air Canada, there was a $100 fee for changing any of the dates.
I am sure also that I have heard that a return can be as cheap or cheaper than a one way ticket anyway |

[QUOTE=PMM;9330473]with no status in Canada, QUOTE]
Hummmm - Don't agree.... Everyone has status in Canada when they arrive.... Her status would be "visitor" ~ My daughters' 21 year old boyfriend arrived on a one way ticket. Was questioned to some extent at passport control in Toronto and then Winnipeg but with an onward address he was good to go. It appears that there was no more questions for him on a one way than there would be for any other 21 year old hooligan travelling alone!! Hundreds if not thousands of people arrive every year on a one way ticket, with a legitimate purpose and a genuine reason to do so. Go on guys...... shoot me down !!! |

Re: Arriving without a return ticket??
I doubt the airport authorities will let your sister board flight easily. It usually depends upon the airlines you select but most of the airlines would let you board the flight if you don’t posses any return ticket.

She might not get to arrivals as it's highly likely she could be refused boarding by the airline when checking in. If not, she could also be refused entry by CIC on arrival. To take the risk out of the equation I'd buy a return (with changes allowed for the return leg) and simply bite the bullet on the cost of changing the return date if you choose to do so. The thing is, I agree that thousands might fly on one way tickets and gain legal entry, but then again there could be hundreds that have been refused boarding on departure or, even worse, entry on arrival. It could be a real deal breaker if, on the day you travel, she is refused boarding or entry. |
Re: Arriving without a return ticket??
Everytime I've flown with AC the past couple of years, there's always been a representative from CIC at the gate at LHR, questionning why you are going to Canada, and asking to see travel docs.
At first I thought it was an airline rep, but looked at his badge (it's always the same guy!) and he was definitely with CIC. |

i can get her a one way ticket for £300 on the same date as us. Glasgow to Calgary. I appreciate they're not the best out there but for the cost saving over the likes of AC its a no brainer!.

Re: Arriving without a return ticket??
Even though I am a permanent resident, I am in the process of getting a new PR card so I cant show it at the airport. Im travelling in a few weeks and contacted both CIC and the airline (Thomas Cook) and both told me that it would be highly unlikely i will be allowed to board the plane without having a PR card, a travel visa from the CIC in London or a return ticket.
Alternatively, my mate just came over last month, no PR card, no visas and NO RETURN TICKET and got into Canada no problems. It depends who you get on the day i suppose... definitely risky though!!! |

Everytime I flew out of Glasgow to Canada we had to show a security officer our return flight. (This was before we even got to check in!) When I was actually flying here to move ( so had a one way flight) I had to show my PR visa.

Note I said check with the airline to see if they will board you. Air Canada probably, one of the charters not so likely. I had a return ticket, but not with the same airline. I came over with CanadianAffair and my return was booked with Zoom. I was not expecting to use the return (and didn't) but thought it a good idea to have it (changing the return date if necessary) because I was going to be making an outland PR application while "visiting" and extending the visa if necessary. I did not show it at CanadianAffair check in. All I gave them was their one-way ticket. It didn't seem to be a problem. In the single arrivals queue I presented my one-way ticket (keeping back my return ticket) and it wasn't queried. |
