hey all,

we arrived in halifax safe and sound. never expected it to be so HOT!!!

been really busy sorting out a rental, a car, insurance, just all the usual stuff!!!!!

think the bank balance has taken a severe dent, especially when we got hit with a $3000 bill for 1yr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

never mind.

apart from the spending of money, the 3 of us are enjoying it already. everyone has been really friendly and helpful, fantastic!!!! (some change from new zealand!!!)

the real star though is our baby daughter who managed 4 flights from new zealand and lots of running about and flying through many different time zones!!!!!!!!!!!

good on her, what a legend!!!

ok folks, got to go just now and get on with the 1000 things we still have to do. moving into a rental up in bedford tomorrow, so cant wait. !!!1

We are going to do the same (also with a baby) in less than 3 months but from the Netherlands... and are really excited about it.

I was wondering did you already have a NS driving licence or could you use a foreign driving licence to buy a car and get an insurrance for it?

Hi there,

You can drive here on your foreign driving licence for 3 months then you have a sit your test again.
You can also buy a car regardless of what licence you hold.

thanks Jullie for the info. That make things easier as the wait for getting an appointment for the test is around 8 weeks... could not wait so long for a car

Landing 3rd Sept and meeting our relator on Thursday morning to start the house hunt.
Jill has already got a short list of about 45
We are only there for 2 weeks then.
But going back to stay sometime in October.

Probably for Car Insurance. It can be pretty expensive, so remember to bring your "proof of no claims letter"

thanks everyone. we are in bedford. at peruz court.

nice and handy for burnside where i work and nice and near the shops. got a rental until we can buy in about 10 months time.

we got moved in the other day and been crazy busy furnishing it!!!!

bank balance has taken a bombing!!!!

i am still on my UK licence, but honestly the driving on the other side is not near as bad as i thought it would be!!!

although ive almost wiped out a few pedestrians!!

I see you dont plan to buy for another 10 months, just so you know, we bought with a 3% downpayment after only being here for 4 months, so let me know if you need a creative mortgage broker, not all can be bothered with situations that require thinking outside the box!
