This is probably in the wrong place but I can't find this info online anywhere.

Does anybody know if registered mail is still getting to it's destination. I posted my daughtesr passport application to Quebec 8 days ago and they have no record of it arriving yet, I have no idea if it is just sat in some sorting office somewhere. We don't travel until August but the application should be there by now shouldn't it? This postal strike has been going on way too long now.

I suppose it could be worse......the LCBO could be on strike :o

I agree can't find out much info about what is going on and it's driving me nuts...

I have a parcel to post to the UK for my parents' Golden Wedding which ain't gonna arrive in time now, looked at alternatives but was about $150+ to courier.

Royal Mail are not accepting anything for Canada. Our first year in Canada and my youngest daughter's birthday is in 2 weeks, now she won't be getting any presents on the day from the UK and will not be a very happy bunny. :frown:

Whether it's registered or not is irrelevant. If Canada Post is the courier, then you're out of luck. Anyone needing a passport soon should apply in person or use a different courier such as FedEx or UPS.

I'd buy a whole bunch of cards and write them out from friends and family? At least then she gets something...

my daughter tried to send a postcard to her pal in toronto (from UK). She was told by the post office here that royal mail had been advised that no more mail to canada should be accepted due to the postal strike - all storage facilities are full

I've just had the same from a US supplier, nothing to canada via the US postal service, its all FedEX, UPS etc

I don't think any mail is being moved registered or otherwise.

I am currently waiting on a letter from the school I go to detailing my first year exam results (95% in the written, 96% in the practical) and confirming that I am attending the second year so that I can get my practitioners licence and start working towards my practicum. Until it arrives I can't do anything.

Mail in Canada, registered, not registered, first class, low class, all mail is stuck until the lockout is lifted.

I don't work for the post office and yet I am concerned when I see people calling this a strike. It isn't. Management locked the workers out. Yes, there were "rolling strikes" before, but mail was moving until the workers were locked out.

This is a good time to be a courier or hotshot company in Canada. As long as you have a solar powered vehicle. Or, here in Edmonton, a bicycle.

The workers excercised their rights, as did the management. Either way, the customers will find alternative ways of doing things. It seems to me that the workers and the management are the ones that, ultimately, will lose out.

Regrettably I cannot reassure or offer practical solution to the OP, but I recently had to send something to Mississauga, which I'm told is somewhere east of Burnaby BC, and found the quote with Fedex was very competitive. In fact less than $2 difference, and possibly quicker service (well certainly it is right now!). I'm sure the couriers are impacted by additional load, but I was surprised to find you can get 4 day guaranteed delivery for about what Canada Post would have charged.

I called in the Post Office yesterday after tracking my letter and it seems that it's just stuck in the system somewhere, the lady at the counter said that she thinks they will be going back to work by the end of next week, I can't believe it TBH, it's gone on way too long now. This country and is unions need a swift kick up the arse (hides).

I was working in Niagara Falls yesterday and nipped over the border to post some birthday cards to the UK. There's a largish post office near Niagara Falls airport, and there were at least five other cars with Ontario plates in the car park. The lady behind the counter told me how busy they were with Canadians sending international mail from there (she reckoned over 1000 customers from Canada so far this week!)

Hi,

I spoke to a guy at work yesterday, and his new passport came back from Quebec via a courier. (Fingers crossed your daughter's application made it before the lock-out started).
