Areas with the least biting insects?

I know Canada has problems with biting insects i.e. mosquitoes, black fly, deer fly, noseeums etc. Following on from another thread my question is where in Canada (except Northern / Arctic territories) , or which areas have the least biting insects?

Not in Canada myself but just 310 miles south of Vancouver BC. Darn few biting insects around here, just a few mosquitos during mid summer evenings.

Same thing down town Toronto, there are mozzies, but not as many as you would find in a more rural area.

Areas with the least biting insects?

Mostly inside. Or in the cities.

The Okanagan - too hot and dry for them  I've hired people from other provinces and they always comment on the lack of mosquitos here.

Canadian mozzies are weird. I've been to places that were hot and dry (no humidity at all) and they were still around.

But at least they were predictable in only coming out between dusk and dawn. They seem happy enough being out in the day over here. They must have non vampire genes or something.

On Vancouver Island.. near the coast. Mozzies don't like the salty sea breezes :)

Maybe. But Labrador had the most bugs of any place I've been.

Well anywhere that is mostly concrete with good drainage, which could be anywhere in Canada really.

I bought one of those Off! clip-on fan things the other day that are being advertised on TV, much to my surprise they are quite effective. I did get bitten on the back of my leg while using it but it's definitely substantially better than nothing at all. I can actually see the mosquitoes flying away from me when I'm using it.

They dont work very well when its breezy unfortunately.

The mozzies this spring have been grim enough that we have invested in both a Skeetervac (to replace one that died) for the yard and a lentek biteshield trap for under the deck, and so far both are doing a brisk business and making the yard a far more pleasant place to hang out. Expensive, but worth it.

Calgary - the mosquitoes are just heading out now for their all-you-can-eat buffet - they'll be around for about a month to six weeks.

First year - I was munched lots. Nowadays I only get a couple of good bumps each year - learnt to keep out of their way and learnt to use bug spray!

Vancouver has no insect problem. Was just in Toronto last week and had mosquitos as soon as I got close to Lake Ontario. Never seen such a thing here.
