Applying for OHIP - questions

First off I am in Canada on an IEC visa. I have some questions regarding my eligibility for OHIP. I've been working for as a contractor (via an agency) for my employer for the past six months. Recently they've taken me on full time directly with them.

My understanding for eligibility for OHIP is you need to be employed for three months and then your employer needs to confirm that they will employ you for a minimum of six months. In addition to this you need to be in Ontario for a minimum of 153 of the last 180 days and be resident in the province.

So far I have met the last two requirements but I am unsure if I meet the first two. Can anyone advise when I will be eligible for OHIP? Will it be now or three months in the future?

I thought you just had to wait three months and have a legal status in Ontario and then you're good to go. We moved here from NS so it was a bit different...

Perhaps, the website is a little unclear on that part.

I'll call them up on Monday to confirm.

You've read the Wiki article? There are various suggestions in there, all of which have come from forummbers who have used them in the past. Medical Insurance-Canada : British Expat Wiki

Just back from Service Ontario today and I was told I would not be able to apply until I get my new visa (in January) they told me that I had to have the actual new work permit granted before they issued me with a health card.
