Default Applying for Citizenship

Has anyone after applying for Citizenship had a "Residence Questionnaire" send to them to complete within 45 days - asking questions re business's, taxes, health services received, property ?

Just wondering why they sent this, i imagine just pick people at random to send questionaires, but flipping heck questions re medical treatment received, education incl. kids report cards, T4's, Mortgage documents, Property Tax assessments etc.etc.etc..

Although i have all this, just OMG really medical cover received after 5 years

rant over, just when you thought you had filled out ALL the forms !

1. No longer random, if you read this media release http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/departm...2012-09-10.asp CIC has decided (finally) that they won't accept everything at face value.

Thank you for the link, interesting reading however, my next thought is i wonder if i have one coming in the post or whether its just the other half ?

or whether he got selected because he wasnt the prinicipal applicant on the original application for Federal Skilled Worker route

Anyway, irrelevant as we have all the information just a pain to hunt it all down again

I see nothing in the link of relevance to the OP's question.

All I see is Tory propaganda promulgated by the despicable Jason Kenny. No mention of an intrusive questionnaire on tax returns, children's report cards etc etc.

Dogs gone I tell you.

Well maybe you wish to sit and read Internal Operational Bulletin 407 which was issued after the audit of the Citizenship Program. http://tinyurl.com/95lglo5

OMG CIC are now going to ask for evidence and proof that a person actually meets the residency requirement before they grant citizenship?
Im shocked.

1. It seems that more of these are being sent out than was the case before.

2. Don't panic, fill it out truthfully and provide supporting documentation (probably copies - in case they lose the originals) where available. If documents have been lost, destroyed or otherwise unavailable, just say so.

3. If you're really living in Canada then even if you can't provide every single piece of paper, you should be able to provide more than enough with few problems. Legally they cannot refuse citizenship if the statutory requirements are met.

Thanks all for the comments.

Whilst i have no problem supplying the proof that we DO live here & totally understand the reasons behind it ie.. fraud I guess I still live in the little "nieve bubble" that thought maybe CIC had the power to actually check these things themselves without me having to fill out another form, with the answers to the same old questions asked 7 years ago & in May when i completed the Citizenship application

I guess its just more money for someone ie.. here i go ringing the Dr's Office to get a letter to say, yes my husband has been for appts etc.. in the 5 years we lived here

I sort of understand what you are saying but look at it from their point of view.
You land in Canada as a PR and supply a Canadian address so you can be issued with a PR card.
When you go to get a doctor, job, open a bank account, get a driving licence etc etc do you tell CIC all of these things?
So how would CIC know which doctor to check with if they dont know who he or she is? The onus is on you not CIC to prove you meet the 1095 days.

yes, i understand all the reasons again but what exactly do they do ?

I mean as an applicant - we (as in all us applicants) send copies of dr records, kids school records, T4's, police checks, mortgage statement, insurance docs (& yes all these things are listed )

what exactly takes them 2 years to do ? because ive done everything

Does this mean that anyone with an application on progress will need to do this new form? Yet another reason for it to take longer

Nobody really understands what CIC workers do. If we are to believe the stereotype of a typical Government worker then they are probably sat around drinking coffee all day playing Solitaire or buying stuff off Ebay and ignoring their In trays as this would mean they actually have to work.
There again they might have phoned in sick or are on vacation.
Perhaps they are actually checking the information that you have provided them to make sure it is factual and has not been fabricated and are now waiting on another Govt worker to supply them with that information who in turn is sitting around drinking coffee and playing Solitaire

Frustrating to all yes but sometimes the wheels dont turn as fast as we would like them to do.

Thank you. That link is more useful. For interested readers the actual Residence Questionnaire is in Appendix A. As far as I can see (speed reading) there's no indication as to how many or which applicants are going to be asked to fill this out.

In our scenario this was addressed to my husband - but the link & thank you for that sounds like it will be sent to everyone now
