Anyone from Quebec City here?

My company uses $61 per day per diem everywhere in Canada except the territories. Very doable as long as you are not also consuming alcohol. When in a self catering place most our guys make a little money I.e. they spend less than they get.

Thank you Engineer_abroad. I now have a range of $61 to $70 for a Per Diem rate. The fact we will be in apartment’s means I will have the freedom to cook and not be fully dependant on restaurants/takeaways which will be nice.
Agreed. I stumbled across this Youtube video yesterday:

Looks like fun.

Many people on here know that we take the train across Canada every year to spend Christmas in Nova Scotia (for what it's worth, it takes 5 days and 6 nights, 3 trains!) ...... but that means we have seen practically every kind of weather that you can see in Quebec between Montreal and Quebec City in mid December and in early January
............. it can vary from no snow to full-blown blizzard. We were in Montreal a couple of years ago when 25 cm fell in less than 24 hours, and QC got more.
BUT as Bristol posted ............... the streets and sidewalks are cleared quickly, traffic including all transit and pedestrians move around. Nothing comes to a halt for long!
If you have a car you MUST get the correct winter tyres, or make sure than the rental car has them.
If you decide to take a short trip to Montreal, may I suggest that you take the train .......... VIA Rail has a direct connection from QC to Montreal several times a day, takes just over 3 hours, not exorbitant especially if you go to the VIA site and watch fro the Tuesday specials. Try taking Business Class, more room, meal and drinks included in the price.

If you're going to spend any time in Quebec, I think Taras Grescoe's Sacre Blues: An Unsentimental Journey Through Quebec would be a must-read: https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/sh...174.Sacr_Blues
