...secure an emigration discount fare with Air Canada ?

We're flying in August (most expensive month apart from Xmas) and if you select One Way the lowest class offered is Latitude Plus, which doesn't seem to offer much more than is actually required... If I book a return I get to choose Tourist Class but it works out a little more expensive than the One Way as the fuel surcharges are double (obviously).

Anyone ever managed to get a "special deal" ?

Any help much appreciated.

I wish!!! Never heard of such a discount!

I usually find that Air Canada fares are slightly cheaper when booked on other websites.

As I prefer to travel with them because they have decent legroom, my strategy is to check the price on the Air Canada website and then I will go through every possible travel website I can think of to find the cheapest fare. I am a bit like a manual travelsupermarket.com or a mobissimo.com.

I did this for flights to Calgary in June recently where they were around £700 return and then I found a £500 flight on the Thomas Cook website that disappeared a couple of days after I booked.

The cheapest I found in the High Street was FlightCentre, who did a cheapest flight guarantee thing.

I guess you will not find much on the cheap side in August, although if you are flexible then Air Canada sometimes do very good fares leaving from Manchester in the peak season and I think they were plugging flights to Montreal in the peak season recently too.

Also, as you noticed, its always a good idea to check prices for both one way and return flights. When we go out in September, I will probably book a return ticket that has a changeable return date but fix the return so I can come back for Christmas if I can - if not, I'll just ditch the ticket.

The other idea would be to wait a few weeks until September when it will be much cheaper (although I was pricing up September flights last week and they were very reasonable but now they have jumped back up again, so I will be waiting for their seat sale now).

We managed to secure our tickets for August Executive First direct through the Air Canada site for £640 each, which was good. We thought about contacting them about an emigration discount (in the hope we could sweet talk them) but didn't in the end.

Oh and congrats on picking up your passports yesterday Patrick. I presume you picked them up.

I've done the obligatory searches on Expedia and Opodo but the price is similar. I think as there is only one Air Canada flight a day to Halifax, we will be landed with having to pay the advertised fare. I've never heard of an Emigration discount either but I thought I would pose the question...

Premium economy in Zoom (from Gatwick) is slightly cheaper, but you do not get as much baggage allowance, plus Gatwick is further away for us, so what we save in flight costs we pay in travel costs!
