Anyone got pet insurance Alberta
Hello All,
Has anyone purchased this & do you feel it is worth it? any recommendations? Am I right in thinking any vet treatment will be very very expensive? The policies I have seen don't seem very good (vetinsurance & petsecure)-lots of exclusions, need for an examination before the policy starts (at your expense), only pay 70-80% of claims, don't cover hip dysplasia.
What does anyone think?
Thanks for replies.

Definitely worth it. In the last 16 months we've had over 10k in Vet bills for our 12 year old German Shepherd. Firstly for removal of his spleen because of malignant hemangiosarcoma and then removal of a prostate cyst. The good news is that at least for us the treatment was first class and we have (touch wood) a fully recovered and healthy friend.

We use Pet Plan. Unless they have changed their policy since we took ours out 3 years ago, whether or not you need to pay for an exam before coverage depends upon the age of your dogs. Ours were 8 and 9, so we had to pay. Coverage is reasonable though at about $200 per dog.

we have got petsecure and we didnt need any examinations prior to start of policy?? we have insured our 2 doggys and both have had plenty of claims for all sorts of stuff in the UK ( broken leg, ball stuck in throat etc etc etc)
we faxed a copy of their medical records and got full ocever no exclusions
we pay $62 a month for both of them they are age 5 and 6
good luck
and yes even in the wilderness areas ( and much cheaper to live) vets bills would be scary indeed without pet inurance

Re: Anyone got pet insurance Alberta
Does anyone have experience of getting insurance for an older dog - our's has always had insurance but will be 12+ when we move to Canada? We're with a small insurer and have made some small-ish claims so can't see them being able to offer insurance in Canada.
Thanks,
Thanks,

We insure a one year old dog with PetSecure for $35 a month on a Standard policy. So far, we have not used it.
I went on their website for you and asked for a quote for a 12 year old Bearded Collie Cross, as a sample. It does come back and offer insurance so I suppose the age thing is not an issue - and the prices vary from $31.97 to $78.40 per month depending on the level of cover, with the choice of $500, $700 or $900 as an excess. Here's a link to their website so you can look at their levels of cover. Hope that helps.
And for Anita - this above link with PetSecure does show 80% coverage on hip dysplasia ...
