We always had Tate and Lyle syrup on ours when I were a lad.

Now I have pancake, bacon and egg.

You was definitely from a posh family Bristol, there was nowt like that in our house back in the UK - it was simply sugary water mixed with corn starch & if there was any, an added spot of jam

Which brings us back to the thread title - is how I'm 'Massively Happy' living in Canada (the land of milk & honey) being able to sweeten things up with Canadian Maple syrup ;)

My mum would take that as a compliment.
I was brung up on a council estate. She'd probably be lynched for her hoity toity ways if we were there now.

I thought that syrup was actually dead common.

Yeah, we can tell how massively happy you are in Canada. The lack of anger and bitterness in your posts is a shining example to us all.

Back to the Panatone french toast & bacon on this cold morning here in Southern Ontario

Wonder if the car will start this morning... 'keep calm & drivel on'

You get up to early!

I only come in here because I'm trying to drum more drinkers up for March 11th.

Someone who is disappointed with Canada is usually perfectly primed for a piss up.

wait till you've been in Canada as long as I have, then you'll understand the 'miserably happy' Canadian 'vibrant' lifestyle (with maple syrup), which has to be better than being a senior living in the UK.

well if you call 5 am EST early, I suppose so.

Just cannot seem to break the pre-retirement routine of getting up before the sun rises. Makes for a long day sometimes

It was. A welcome one. Enough had been enough for about a decade before I left.

Not massively disappointed in Canada at all. In fact, I'm pretty sure I am going to stay here for the rest of my life! Sure, I miss some things about the UK. Mostly family and friends. But my lifestyle is so much better here.
If you want boring, go to Belgium.

Quite.

But it did seem important at the time to milk the pension plan to the max.

Actually it still seems important since despite the collapse of the C$, we're living quite comfortably on our pensions in Europe.

Ooh, BTW we were in Brighton a couple of weeks ago. Nice place. Thought of you.

The milking makes perfect sense.

Brighton was always a rather nice place. Somewhat quirky, even when I was a kid. Always interesting though, in a rather theatrical sort of way. It was monumentally gay before gay existed.

I very much doubt that my Mother would agree. She has a nice house, scooters to the seafront, isn't trapped indoors by walls of ice and snow three months of the year.
