Default Anyone Else got there Lives on hold to Move to Canada

Hi there guys. Just wondered if there are others like me that have put there lifes on hold to make thier move to canada happen. I left my safe full time job last year for other reasons. Then decided to apply to move to canada. I have put everything on hold career wise until I find out about this. I work for myself right now as can not commit to a full time job in my choosen area, I also work freelance sometimes. Its a risk I am taking but hoping it works out.
Who else is in similer position of sacrificing things now all for this move out there. Good Luck to everyone else in same boat. Lets hope we all get good decisions.

I think that everyone puts certain aspects of their life on hold eg you may not consider moving home within UK and often would hesitate to change jobs but as the processing time for skilled worker is over 4 years it would probably be wise to further your career either through promotion or by gaining some new skills and qualifications.

If you intend to start applying for jobs in Canada while you wait, you choose not to replace furniture (especially electricals) or cars. We and others on here have been left driving ramshackle cars that you are preying won't die on you. After all, that Canadian job offer might just be around the corner!

Holidays are low key unless you are heading over to Canada on a fact-finding trip.

While you wait, find out as much as you can on not only your chosen province, but all the others too. You may change your mind as to where to want to move to - all the provinces have something special to offer.

All that, and keeping the whole process a secret.......... not easy!

I have been learning new things as well. I actually have a job lined up already out there waiting for me. So its frustrating as I want to get out there and begin my new job and my new life out there. I cant wait. Yeah the thing about keeping it a secret is a good point. I have told alot of people I have applied but as its not 100% its hard to tell everyone incase it falls through. Dont want to get to far ahead of myself. Also yeah i guess your right anyone who is in process cant buy new car or move as its not worth it until you know outcome of this process.

In a slightly different position as I'm neither skilled enough to warrant even the four year queue on offer to those with real qualifications and useful life skills nor in a relationship where sponsored apps are a reality... but, if it makes you feel any better... (!)

I'm heading off to Toronto sometime early 2007 with BUNAC - I appreciate it hardly compares to giving up your life wholesale to try somewhere new - but I'm foregoing offers from some decent universities for another year and will have to give up what's to me a rather good job to just try it out for 12 months.

I couldn't even give you a straight answer as to why, but for some reason I feel strongly enough about doing this that finishing an undergrad at age 27 isn't too much of a shameful notion to make Canada a no-go.

It's a special place, despite its faults. I'm certain for most people whatever sacrifices need be made won't be in vain.

Good luck to you either way, and know you're not alone.

About 6 months after our AOR, I applied for a new job, as the one I was in was a little limiting and I wanted to maintain the broadness to my experience.

At the time the process from application to visa was about 18 months, so I informed them at my interview that I was in the process of applying to emigrate to Canada, and should they decide to off me the job, I would likely only be around for about a year. I suppose I need not have said that, but I felt it was only fair they should know.

Anyhoo, I got the job, but the funny thing was that, although I got the usual "have you heard anything yet?/ has the house sold yet?" type of questions, when I actually handed in my notice (of about 6 weeks after we got the visas) the boss was still apparently surprised that I was actually leaving!

I think one reason why I have not taken another full time position in my field is that I dont want to put myself in that position. Right now I am 100% ready to go to canada. If I got another full time job I might get settled and then chicken out of making the move when I got visa. I think when we are comfortable in job and life sometimes that can hinder what we really want to do. If I dont get the canada visa then It would have been a mistake to put career on hold so just hoping I have made the correct decision. If I get it I move there and have a job lined up already. If I dont get it then I have lost valuble year or more in experiance and will be back to square one. I hope CIC will make my dream and many others come true.

Not anymore.

At least we can buy things now, knowing we will not have to give them away, or sell them on a car boot sale in a few months time.

Hi There

Yep kinda in the same boat, although just spent a right few quid on, nintendos plus games for the kids, is there not a convertor plug that means the kids can still use them in North America?

Not sure. Its to do with the PAL and NTSC systems. Have been told on here that one way round it is bring a UK TV over with you and use a power converter. My kids are selling all their games and consoles for PS2 and Gamecube. It's a shame as they had loads of games. Never mind, Santa and friends gave them lots of $CDNsssss for Christmas!

Been in same boat! We have received a job offer through the PNP process and our visas are due February, they want us out there for July '07 and it's the worst time now. For the last 18 months it has seemed so far away and having everything on hold has been a nightmare but you just get on with your life and think you've got ages! But if you hang in there it's worth it, now we have only 6 months to wait and this is the worst part of it as you just want to pack and go but it's still quite far away. I bet we'll blink, it will be May, we won't be organised and end up stressed beyond a point of return and wonder where all the time has gone!
Just think how quick this years gone and you'll be in Canada in no time!

I think the difference is that I went for that job with the sole notion of it making me more attractive to the Canadian job market, as I had begun to get rather too specialised......

The other thing is that I had not come across this forum and all its "burning of rose-coloured specs" at that time, and it never even crossed my mind that there would be any problem with us getting accepted. We were going. That was that. Only question was when!
