Anyone cleared a container through customs?
Hi all,
My mum has sent her 20ft container, of household goods already listed in her goods to follow from when she landed in September, from the UK to port at Halifax, NS. She is arranging for another company to collect it from port and deliver it to her new home. She will have to clear customs herself - has anyone else done this and can they give advice, suggest things to avoid any pitfalls before she attempts the men in uniforms :) Thanks all  |
Re: Anyone cleared a container through customs?
Really nothing to it. You just turn up as arranged, sign a few forms and 10 minutes later you're on your way. It is highly unlikely there will be any issues with customs. I don't think they're looking for work when it comes to a well documented, domestic container.

Re: Anyone cleared a container through customs?
maybe this will help we have a couple of arrivals every month not much can go wrong other than the rare occasion that they want to inspect the container....and don't forget to deliver the paperwork to your shipper when you have been to customs..
Proceed to Customs Office located at 1583 Hollis Street, Halifax (Bank of Canada Building). Bring with you all shipping documents which you received at the origin point from the shipping agent, plus original ID, passport, work Visa, posting order, etc. UNLESS YOU ARE A TEMPORARY RESIDENT, it is very important to bring Accounting Document B4E which you would have received at your entry point into Canada to declare your goods to follow. Parking is a challenge. Office hours at Customs 8:00 – 4:00, Monday – Friday, telephone 902-426-2072. All original documents MUST be returned to who ever has received the container....could be Halifax Transfer or Thompsons..for exampe office, clearly showing the Canada Customs “released†stamp prior to arrangements for delivery. Any additional Canada Customs or Canada Border Service Agency fees are for the shippers and/or consignee’s account. hope that helped |
