We unsubscribed from Netflix as we couldn't access them using a VPN but I wonder if things have changed recently. This page on Unblockus implies that it can now be accessed

I just didn't want to sign up to discover I couldn't get access

No they still don't support Netflix on any device except a web browser according to their channel guide.

No, that's what made us switch to Overplay, not only was it not working for Netflix ( it worked for BBC etc ) but was actually stopping us using Netflix Canada if it was on.
After much to and fro I switched and now don't bother switching Netflix at all, I just use the blocker for BBC etc on all devices

We did a bit of research and eventually switched to Express VPN and it has been excellent for both US and UK Netflix.

I've been using TotalVPN for a couple of years, with no problems whatsoever until about 3 weeks ago when BBC iPlayer started whingeing that I wasn't in the UK.
ITV hub, My5 and All 4 still function ok.
Shame about iPlayer tightening up; no ads, the option to download and obviously the available content made this my channel of choice.

Setup with a new fairly cheap ASUS router which works fine for the IPlayer but Netflix still doesn't work.

That's odd. All that ever happened with me is the iPlayer asking if I have a TV licence (you know the correct answer to that) and more recently, asking me to register, using a UK postcode (pretty easy). What does customer support at TotalVPN say about it? I'm on PureVPN.

I think I might be able to explain. Part of iPlayer security is that if it runs on your machine it leaves a data cookie behind. If it thinks you are dodgy it will be a poisoned cookie that will prevent iPlayer from downloading or playing files forever, or until you clear out caches etc in your browser. Once it thinks you are dodgy you have to clear out caches cookies etc etc. That's why it might work on some and not other machines - if you ran it once without vpn it won't run in the future with vpn, and worse I suspect it reports your addresses which helps them block that server. Of course cookies can be read in the future by other websites and they call call the BBC effectively if the BBC pay for it (what cookies are all about). Solutions simple - always use a good vpn that uses a huge rotating ip range hidden within a valid user community.

Different rules they apply, when a number of streams/users appear to be the same address they are coming via a vpn, but some places like universities or companies insist on them to get to the www so you cant just block them regardless - or actually you can if you choose to. This is why users of good vpn's dont talk about them openly.

Many thanks for this invaluable piece of information! My late night viewing habits can now resume.

BBC IPlayer won't let us connect, it recognises that we aren't in the UK. I've deleted cookies but still no success.

We had an issue with our VPN recently. Husband contacted them via the 24/7 chat thing and they suggested we actually change the time zone to be that of the UK- it fixed it. :-)
