The cheapest flights you are going to get are through Canadian Affair.

I think Air Transat and Canadian affair are pretty much the same thing aren't they?

Often the case but not entirely. Last October B.A. were flogging tickets ex Calgary for *some* flights for around $80 one way. Of course, load the local taxes which are never included initially & the price leaps somewhat, but still good.

Seeing as the OP is in Halifax - There was a charter airline flying schedules from Gatwick to Halifax some time back. Not sure if they still are? Could be worth checking. I forget their name. The airline that the lead singer for Iron Maiden is a first officer for - Ol whatisname?! Somebody may know the airline I mean? Its late & I can't be arsed to google it.

London-Halifax is sadly a monopoly route where we are all held to ransom.

When Zoom were around you could get return tickets for £350, and this drove AC's prices down also. Now that AC are the only airline flying to YHZ all year they hold the tethers and can sadly charge what they like.

I think it is terrible. We need another airline to fly the route on a non-seasonal basis simply to provide competition for Air Canada so that they lower their prices.

It's one of the shortest flights into Canada from London, yet one of the most expensive!

Try Kayak.co.uk I just typed in 30th Sept to go back to London from Halifax and the two cheapest are under 300 pounds. In fact air transat is running a direct flight for 238! Here's the link but I think it only lasts a night so you may have to type the details in again. http://www.kayak.co.uk/r/MEFnPN
Canadian affair is cheap for last minute flights but I have traveled using kayak for cheaper when booking earlier. Actually got a 3 city flight for my parents on here for less than 300 pounds each.
