Default Any tips on Calgary car leases

Sister in law needs a car desperately and is looking to lease, we live in NW Calgary and she reckons she has about $400 a month to spend.

Anybody got any recommendations on what car and where from dealer wise would be appreciated.

2wd or AWD?

4 door, 5 door, wagon or SUV?

Domestic or import?

How can anyone recommend anything in particular just based on a desired monthly repayment?

I'd recommend a visit to http://www.canadiandriver.com/ to narrow things down.

I know but its much easier to get a lease, its essentially a secured loan.

????
Lease or regular finance its still a 'secured loan'. The loan is secured against the car.

In fact there is LESS security in a lease as it can be assigned.

as I understand it - leasing is a way to get a car you can't really afford.

well - I kind of agree. With a standard car loan, you at least get to keep the car when you've paid it off. With a lease aren't you in effect just paying for the depreciation with an option to buy at the end of the lease (plus quite a bit extra for the privilege I would imagine).

Well speaking from experience on a TWP I couldn't get car loan with my downpayment - I could get a lease though and I think that is a common experience (judging from the other Brits who have joined work recently and two columbians) . I don't think car finance is secured they are lending you money , you buy a car with it.
