Any musicians in NS?

Hi
We'd really like to settle in NS and s my OH is a musician & guitar teacher ( he used to teach in the UK school system as a peripatetic music teacher ) so we wondered if anyone on BE has any experience of either playing in a band or teaching an instrument either in schools or privately in NS?

If so, is there much work for bands in or outside Halifax? Is there much corporate or private function work or is it mainly seasonal work?

Does anyone have any knowledge of the school system in NS employing instrument teachers?

I know it's a probably a long shot to find someone else in a similar position, but if you are I'd love to hear about your experience.:)
Thanks
Lynda

Are you kidding ? NS is FULL of celtic and folk musicians amongst other genres. Cape Breton is prime for celtic and folk.

Actually it's the same here in France they love folk and celtic based music, but sadly it's not high on the list of Oh's musical abilities!:(

My stepson played in a band in Greenwood and also plays now in Halifax. He's a bass guitarist. Lots of clubs, halls, events, etc. for music in the NS province.

(How I wish I was in Sherbrooke now). Thanks AX, I've got that going round and round in my head now - but I prefer the Irish Descendants' version to Stan Rogers' (is that sacrilege?)

I thought "Farewell to Nova Scotia" was pretty much required learning as well - let your mountains dark and dreary be, and all that?

Pretty much. The original Stan can't really be beat although the Irish Descendents are probably a strong second. Jeez, I've been living with a Newf for too long. I'm starting to talk coherently about squiddly diddly music!
