I do remember coloured toilet paper....usually found in toilets with carpet on the floor and a toilet seat cover that matched the carpet.

Remind me how long ago you left? Packs of coloured toilet paper were in all the shops way past the 70s. Certainly in 2004 when I left the UK.

1981 full time departure but also lived there 1988-1990 and probably been back 20 times since 1990 most recently in 2017. We lived in a leafy part of Cheshire.

Don’t cancel all your UK bank accounts/credit cards - I still have two accounts and 1 UK credit card for when I’m there

That last point is excellent as it is also a hedge against problems if one decides to return to the UK permanently. I use my UK credit card now and again to keep the bank interested, and have rental income moving through my bank account. I kept my mortgage on the house, so there is a cash flow through the account, and ongoing credit history.
