I've never been to Estevan, but my husband has been there on business, and I know several people who grew up there.

The town has a population of about 10,000. It's in the middle of the prairies, in Saskatchewan, quite close to the Canada-USA border.

I've never heard of anyone describing Estevan as being particularly rough. How rough can a town of 10,000 people get?

Actually I don't really know what you mean by rough. I would consider it a bit rough because it gets harsh winters and because it's far away from larger towns with more amenities.

Since Estevan's population is only 10,000, you wouldn't have to travel very far from the town centre before you hit rural areas.

I know this will be considered unhelpful, but if you could learn proper English it would be advantageous, both here and in Estevan.

I think that's another way of saying "sorry, I don't know anything about Estevan".

OK, this isn't going to be much help, but might be a smidge more than some of the previous posts..! (is "smidge" ok?)

I don't know anything about living in Estevan; I went there once on my trip to the border to go "round the flagpole" (e to immigrate from outside of Canada). What I discovered was it is quite isolated - as that previous post said, you don't have to go far out of town to be rural.

Rural Saskatchewan is a pretty unforgiving place, and there is not a lot surrounding Estevan. Maybe are you looking at getting an acreage or something? Small SK towns don't have a lot in the way of suburbs - you're on the main road, you head into town and there is the traditional north american (look, no capitals!!! what was that English degree for???) strip as you go in - gas stations, Tim Hortons, McDs, DQ etc. There's a few turnoffs for the town and then the strip out of there and then...nuthin'...

You would be a lot more isolated in rural SK than in rural England (sorry, you probably are aware of all this) - ie in really bad weather you could get stuck - you'd need those apocalypse-style supplies (frozen milk etc).

Erm, sorry, this hasn't been very helpful. But that's pretty much all I know. Oh! and it's very sunny there. Very very sunny. Why Estevan in particular? Have a work offer there?
