Alberta vs Nova Scotia

Hello

17 yrs ago this site helped us with our Canadian Journey and I so appreciated the help.
We’ve been very happy in Alberta, made lots of good friends and have good jobs but lately I’ve been contemplating a move out East.
We have some friends in Halifax and I’m wondering about the differences between the 2 provinces.
Anyone have any pros and cons!

thanks

Karen

If you can do your jobs remotely I would keep them as wages will not be as good in NS. Your taxes will be quite a bit higher and I am not sure the cost of living won't be higher too. Rent or property around Halifax is a joke price propped up by onward migration, be it from the rest of Canada or the world.

In terms of the rest that is subjective. I like NS and Halifax is a nice wee city, especially over the summer. To live and work there was not at all enjoyable. Mediocrity is the order of the day to an extent I have never before witnessed. I will enjoy visiting in the future but you could not pay me enough to live there again.

I've never been to Halifax, NS but the impression I get is that because it's an older city it has a strong local culture and is quite pedestrian and bike friendly. A bit more interesting than your typical suburban sprawl type situation. But the concerns about an overall weaker economy are likely accurate.

The waterfront is also quite lively, based on this video

Both my Canadian stepson and stepdaughter lived in Halifax and left the city to reside in small cities outside of Halifax proper. In my visits, the city was lively with much to see and do but the surrounding areas were far more user friendly with a totally different vice.
