Alberta Driving License

I will arrive July and apply for PR and spousal sponsorship in country. Will I be able to apply for an Alberta driving license or will I have to drive on my UK license until approved?

When you go to register for Alberta healthcare, you can swap your UK license plus $62 I think it cost for the Alberta license.
I swapped on the 22nd,and got my license through the post today :)
