The quarantine restrictions with Canada/UK May still be in place then.

Very possibly, no way to know I guess. It means PRs such as ourselves can finally make concrete plans to move though.

Just double check their terms and conditions/tariff if they decide to cancel the flight and make sure you know your rights as a passenger.

I would keep the part about "provided travel restrictions applicable on that date allow it." in mind.

We are pleased to announce the resumption of our flights and tour operator activities as of July 23, 2020, provided that the travel restrictions applicable on that date allow it. We are offering a new flight schedule to more than 20 destinations in Europe, the South, the United States and Canada until the end of the summer season on October 31, 2020.

Air Transat's model is to make the flights cheap (at least before airport fees) by squashing lots of people in. They make it ok by having good food and lots of free booze. That's an arrangement that's suited me in the past and I've flown with them many times. I wouldn't look at it now though, aeroplanes are full of germs at the best of times and now they'll be a fine place to catch the plague. I've long had a policy of not flying Air Canada if there's an option to take Greyhound, I think I might now adopt one of not taking Air Transat if a tramp steamer can get me there.

If Canada wants its airlines to survive, they will eventually need to help them as other countries have done. Canadian airlines are not unique.

Prior to Covid 19 the amount of articles and comments on the major Canadian airlines (Air Canada, West-jet, Air Transat, Sunwing and Porter) are not very favourable in most cases. I have flown with 4 of them usually on shorter haul flights 2 to 5 hours duration. On any of those flights I have taken I can honestly say there has been nothing that happened on those flights that would cause me to complain. Sure we all get pissed off due to delays on taking off etc but some of those factors have nothing to do with the airline itself.
Granted I am the type of guy that just wants a seat but also prepared for upgrades, that any checked bags arrive off the flight I got on (direct flight) and it safely gets me from A to B and possibly via C.

All 4 carriers receive less than ideal ratings when compared to say Singapore, Lufthansa, KLM, Etihad and Emirates etc etc. Are the 4 carriers the worst in the world then no they are not. Many travellers want competition and prefer to travel with other carriers even on the same routes.
A lot of Canadians also want to save as much money as they can and will drive 2 to 3 hours to a US airport due to our prices.
So as for bailing them out this becomes very subjective for many.

If you're in Toronto then it usually makes sense to drive to Detroit and often makes sense to drive to Buffalo. Once I drove to Chicago to catch a flight. The airport and parking charges in Toronto make it an expensive choice of airport. Once the piss-in-a-brewery factor of the airport and immigration administration is considered it's hard to see why anyone who can legally enter the US would go there.

Air canada used to do decent food and free booze, now in the name of corvid it's just a cold butty and water. Not pouring tea or coffee I get but why can't they handout tins of soda or beer alongside the water and why can't they serve a heated meall? Can't see what the difference is.

Cost cutting under the guise of COVID, but I can see why they need to cut costs, revenue has plummeted and they need to control costs, and cutting back soda and better and reducing meal size and quality is one way to do it.
