From those trips to Aus I had enough miles for a 'free' trip to Vancouver in Feb, and another one in May. They quite often give a bit of perferential treatment to their frequent flyer members. ;)

Thanks everyone for the tips! We still haven't booked anything but I think we are leaning towards AC at the mo!

we'd never flown long haul only to europe when we flew with AC london to calgary, we checked in using their automated service where at the airport you can pick which seats you want on the machine which was brilliant. the food was good and never ending as were the drinks, great leg room, blankets pillows headphones papers . staff were mature and friendly, and for the 1st time in my life i didnt get air sick ( which id been petrified of being such a long flight)

we just flew with air canada and the leg room was fine on the seats.. i have just figured out the best way to get bulk head seats, travel with a small child and you can request them (and we were lucky enough to get them)! ok if you already own a small child, a problem if you dont.

Yes, I agree with you on FOOD at Air Canada - VERY POOR QUALITY, stodgy, tastless stuff. Staff were helpful, Airbus Aircraft was fine (it's all about safety after all). We've used AC twice, and surprised at low quality food and charges for meals if you have a domestic leg, e.g. Montreal - Calgary.

I'd save the dosh and try a different carrier.

Seems Air Canada may have bucked up their ideas service wise now they've got some competition again from the likes of Transat and Zoom.

We're flying over with AC for the first time when we leave these shores for good in June. It was the Premium Economy offer because we're travelling with a baby and the generous baggage allowance that swung us. However - we may just take a packed lunch given what people are saying here.

We've used pretty much all the budget carriers. My opinions are pretty much well discussed elsewhere on this board, but in brief:

Transat - Terrible legroom and very cramped, food was rough, very basic service...oh, and the service record of their planes leaves a lot to be desired as well.
Canadian Affair (My Travel/Thomas Cook) - Plane was half empty both there and coming back so space wasn't an issue, on-ground service was atrocious, bumped without notification.
Zoom - probably the best we've flown with so far. Fair bit of legroom and service was okay. Ground staff in Canada were "by the book" on baggage allowance though.


As for Laker...naaah - bring back WardAir!
