Don't tourists bring money though? I know that many of the shops around here depend on the tourist trade.

That's exactly why the Hershey factory was a loss to the area - the tourists have no reason to go to Smiths Falls now and so aren;t spending money in the town.
Factories closing down... isn't that generally a bad thing for the area? Unemployment and suchlike. Just a thought ..I wasn't wrong. |
Re: Advice please on Cornwall Ontario
Have you thought about the Quinte area - close to TO, Montreal, Ottawa and on Lake O.
We live in Prince Edward County - a gem of a place - million dollar properties, vineyards, fine dining, creative econonmy, Lake Ontario and Sandbanks. It is like a little bubble and yet cross over the bridge from the Island and you have Belleville on your door step. There are still some affordable places on PEC. |

I think the OP was looking at working in Ottawa, so nice as it is around here I dont think it would work for them. Personally I never saw what the fuss was over the county, its nice, but not worth the premium compared to north of the bay, and you get a lot more lake effect snow than those of us that dont stick out into the lake. I suppose if you want to run a B&B though its OK:D |

Snow what's that? We are not in the snow belt. Last year had 2 weeks of snow and did not use our tractor to plow our drive way at all (we have a farm), and the year before was a bad year and that was 1 month of snow but we did have to use the bucket on the tractor.
We are a 3 hr drive from Ottawa. |
