Its an old joke at Saskatchewan's expense. There is not much to do (allegedly), and its so flat that the horizon is about two days travel away, so rumour has it that entertainment consists of watching the neighbours dog run away, with nothing to impede the show for days.


Actually Regina has a bit going for it...Lizwil is one regular who lives there. There are even allegedly hills there about too. or a river valley anyway...

MarkG lives in Saskatoon. Perhaps you could send him a private message and ask him about Saskatoon. Alternatively, perhaps you could start a thread that has Saskatoon in its title, and then he'd have a better chance of spotting the thread.

Its a STEREOTYPE... that means its probably not true.

Its a bit isolated, but other than that its supposed to be OK. Its not quite Gods waiting room, but perhaps there are other more vibrant places in Canada of that's really important to you...Vancouver, Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary etc.

Why Saskatchewan anyway? Is it Saskatoon specifically?

POtential opportunity for my other half may take us there- house prices are good but thats prob beacuse no one else wants to be isolated... im nervouse now, i mean there has to be some stuff there i guess to do....

Its a big enough city, there is bound to be something to do.

Its actually got quite a young population.

But its cold in the winter (freezeyoureyescold) and hot in the summer (thingsbakewhenleftinthebackofacarhot). I would suggest a visit before commiting. Plenty of other parts of canada offer relatively cheap housing, but to be fair most of the expat SK residents seem happy enough with their choice.

I can't imagine its that isolated. These guys are just making light hearted fun but not at your expense. Migth be worth having alook at the Wiki -see if there is anything there about Saskatoon that may help. Plus this website is also a good network for helping you gain friends. I have just read a few threads where some people have meet up and it seems like they had a good time so will probably stay friends. I dont write as much as some of the others but I'm sure if I wanted to meet with some of them in Calgary( where I'm heading) they would...well depends if they wanted to of course :o But I understand your concerrns and there are many people here who will help.
And i've rambled far too much. Must be the wine...Hope it helps anyway.

I've never been to Saskatoon, but I've heard good reports of it. It has a population of about 235,000, so it's a small city but not exactly a village or hamlet. It reportedly has an attractive river valley.

The daughter of a colleague of mine moved there about eighteen months ago. I've seen her during a couple of visits back to Calgary.

She likes Saskatoon a lot. In fact she prefers it over Calgary. But then she's an outdoorsy person. She rides horses, and she says they go to lakes for fishing on the weekends.

Also, the family is Canadian, and the young woman in question grew up in Okotoks, which is a satellite town of Calgary. So, in quoting her, I'm not providing an expat's opinion.

Sorry Bexjade just pulling your leg, i`m sure its great and like has already been mentioned other people have loved living there.

As an aside I just saw a documentary about Drumheller (where I live) and if i`d have seen that before I went - I wouldn`t have went anywhere!!!!! Made the town out to look super religious dinosaur freaks that ride Harleys and drink too much (OK 1 out of 4 aint bad)
