Advice on moving to Canada
 

Hi everyone
Myself and my partner are considering a move to Canada in the next 5 years. Does anyone know of any good companies in the UK where we can get advice on requirements and processes that we need to consider. A search online is basically just a lot of visa companies trying to sell you their business, but we are looking for helpful and practical advice.

I guess my main question is about work. I'm an Executive Assistant with a HR qualification and my partner has a diploma in Health and Safety. I'd obviously be reluctant to move without work so are there agencies who specialise in helping to get work for people in the UK looking to move?

Not that I’m aware of. Do you need a job offer/sponsorship to get a visa or do you qualify without one?

The reality is that it’s nigh on impossible to get a job offer from outside Canada unless you’ve got specialist skills needed in Canada, you’d need to get over there and job hunt in person and then you may get lucky. You’ll also find it much easier if you already have a visa (and are therefore work authorised), rather than requiring sponsorship.

What does a diploma in Health and Safety qualify him/her to do? Is this a medical qualification?

No its not medical....its ensuring health and safety laws are adhered to within a workplace.

Welcome to the forum. Nobody's mentioned it yet, but the usual advice is you don't need to enlist any agencies; all the help you'll need is here on the forum. That's good news!

Your partners diploma may not be recognised for Health and Safety regulations in Canada. I would suggest you look into that - each Province has it's own licensing for many professions and trades. Likewise with your HR qualification - have you checked to see if it's recognised in Canada?

As Christmasoompa mentioned, finding a job from overseas will be difficult unless you are in an in-demand occupation. Do you have any preference for Province?

There's no need for you to go through any agencies (immigration consultants) generally speaking, you either qualify for one of the PR routes or you don't - an Immigration consultant can't magic up a route for you - and our experienced members can help with any questions you might have.. for free!
