Don't be put off if they're a one man band, lots of government contracts are handled by shady middle men who take a percentage just for being intimate with the contract administrator. (I, ahem, know this to quite common). Be careful though to get them/him to finance your receivables, the government can take (literally) years to pay their bills and it's not unusual for contractors to have to give up on the job because they ran out of cash flow.

Re: ADVICE ON AREAS IN OTTAWA?
Hello,
Having been born and raised in Ottawa by British Expate parents and having lived near London for a few years - might I suggest either the Civic Hospital or Westboro areas - they are both lovely and both neighbourhoods are close to Bishop Hamilton which is an alternative public school which follows the Montessori educational philosophy. It is also close a bit of action with Wellington Village 5 minutes away along with downtown being about 10 minutes away. You can avoid the 417 altogether to get to a work location downtown (you can take Richmond/Wellington to the downtown core) or Kanata (you can take Richmond/Carling all the way to March Road). The areas are slightly more expensive to live in, but offer lovely parks, the Ottawa River Parkway and a beautiful mix of older and newer homes - plus good boutique style shopping and terrific cafes and restaurants. Good luck with your search! I also know of an incredible realtor should you need one. Rosemary |

Rosemary They may still seem like good value by English standards but it would be painful for me to buy there now knowing how cheap they were a few years ago. The surrounding area is up and coming though. |
