advice

hello everyone

I am trying to make some contacts and also trying to identify some employers who are within Colchester County in Nova Scotia who use investigators as a job role.
I am currently a civilian Police investigator and i am looking for an investigatory role of sorts based in Colchester County or the surrounding area.
Does anyone have any suggestions ?
I have contacted Truro police and also the RCMP for the Halifax area.

thanks for reading

Hi Womblecat

You must be a Canadian citizen to join the RCMP, i think that is also the req for the Police too. Also the same for the civilian side.

You could take a different route and become a Private Investigator if you are not already a citizen. You will be req to hold a P.I. licence to operate in Ontario, not sure if this is a requirement all over Canada, i would be surprised if it is not, this now incl 50 hours instruction and a written test. The test incl: Pippeda, powers of arrest, trespass law, and all other Canadian Law related subject's.

Not really relevant to this discussion, but some forces will accept PRs, so citizenship is not mandatory in all jurisdictions. Best to check locally.

They were recruiting police officers from the UK - but they have stopped active recruitment at this time.

The OP is a Civilian Police Investigator, not regular Police. Could that make a difference do you think ?

The OP wasn't interested in Calgary, but for anyone else viewing, keep an eye on the City of Calgary website. It's like breaking into a bank though - I doubt they will be looking at actively bringing in overseas investigators when they will have a large selection of home-grown talent.

I fully expect to hear about hiring freezes and budget cuts pretty soon too.

The OP could also look at the big retail companies for job postings as fraud investigators, etc.
