Can anyone recommend an accountant in the Vancouver/Surrey BC area? planning for our move in May and i am going to need an accountant. I have emailed a few so far but have had zero replies from anyone, seems like nobody wants my business!!

I'd pick up the phone, Canadians and emails often aren't a great match!

Our lovely member JonboyE is an accountant in the area, might be worth pinging him an message. He's not posted in ages but he's still active on the forum.

I would call but the cost of calling Canada seems crazy, i had a 30 min call to a bank a couple weeks ago which added £80 to my phone bill

Even if I used my mobile (which doesn't have an international package) it's only 19p a minute to phone Canada so was it a premium rate number maybe? There are so many cheap ways to call internationally these days, most mobile providers offer an International package and services like this are super cheap - https://www.rebtel.com/en/

Skype is another good one, or any other VOIP service. https://www.skype.com/en/international-calls/Canada

Honestly, I'd wait until May (or potentially after your out here) plenty of accountants in the area (I live 5 minutes outside Surrey, see plenty of accountants store fronts when driving round) - however we are currently coming to the end of tax return season (and everyone has to file in Canada) so any good accountant is likely very busy for the next week or so.

Also - may be worth considering an accountant who is well versed in Canadian and UK taxation, even if they are less local.


Checkout mytello, I currently use them for the opposite, ringing Canada from the UK - but looking online it works the other way too and costs you 1p a minute! (Call is routed over data I believe, but that's endless in the UK or just use wi-fi)
