A story in this weekend's UK News Of The World claims 684 people quit the UK every day
The 3 main reasons given are IMMIGRATION, CRIME and TAX
Interestingly Canada does not even get a mention as a destination! It says Australia, New Zeland, Spain and France are the main destinations
The full story is here..

If it's in the News of the world it must be true right?

Who knows, but they appear to be quoting official government figures
What puzzles me is if the figures are true then why is Canada not mentioned?
The actual uk government figures must be available somewhere showing where everyone is coming and going from...

Aus, NZ, France, Italy all make a good story in that these are the prime destinations on all those emigration shows, and are seen as having that "laid back lifestyle". Even though Canada is probably the 2nd most popular destination, it just doesn't have that image.

Do you think present day Canada resembles the Canada that I grew up in?
Is China, the US or Poland the same 40 years on? Will they change in the next 40 years?
The world changes. The world has various revolutions, paradigm shifts, economic growths and declines, political upheavals, technological changes, diasporas etc... etc... that's life on planet Earth.

this is an old story the NotW has rehashed. with a little shock horror
from Dec 2006
http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/2701_immigration.shtml
Nov 2007
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main...15/nemi115.xml
Canada is 4th on the list
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/h...ml/default.stm
seems the NotW might be exaggerating a bit? but not much.

BRITONS are leaving the country in record numbers—thanks to the huge increase in average household wealth, driven primarily by the housing market boom.

Re: 684 Quit Britain Every Day!
Wow - this is some hot thread!! Buncha sarcy, cynics, these guys all are!! - on a more serious note - I do meet a lot of brits around here. Sooner or later, the talk turns to "happiness here", "Are you going back", etc. If it does not turn to that, I bring up the topic.
Most brits are happy here (happier than in the UK). Many have thought of going back, or have actually gone back and had to come back to Canada - for various reasons. One family that I spoke to went back (to the South East), could not hack it and came back to Canada. Then they reasoned that they'd make a better go of it if they settled in a smaller town, so they went back again (to Norwich) - could not hack it - and came back. Their reason was lifestyle.
A lot of them that want to go back, but have not taken the plunge are holding back because of cost-of-living.
I am in this camp. My Mrs is not happy here, but we live a comfortable life here, (mortgage is < 15% of net income). Every way that I compute it, this would rise to over 50% of income back in the UK - and I am not sure how we could square the circle on this...
