2nd thoughts!!!!

My OH is having 2nd thoughts about our move to Canada. We are a family of 4, girl 10, boy 7 and have family in canada, (not much in UK) we have a relatively small mortgage here with 14yrs left on it, and our own business, we work very hard, which i think we would anywhere, except i can straggle my working pattern to fit in with kids hols etc, i would take up a full time position in Canada and as my OH isnt highly skilled he would maybe not enjoy whatever job he does when we first arrive, this i feel is an important factor in settling, he looks at our move as ' if it aint broke dont fix it' whereas I would like my children to grow up in a better environment than britian today. The Uk isnt the worst country in the world to live in, I know, and my hubby who made the move from Turkey 12yrs ago and built up a life here looks at it as starting all over again and at 43 isnt too keen, i have a job in line which will take me at first to Fort McMurray,Alberta and then on to Summerland BC when the companies head office moves. I know noone can decide for us, but some advice please!!!

your possibly in a better situation than some, Having a job secured firstly; I am awaiting my visa's, I don't have a job to go to as yet, and I am as old as your OH; I am also in the opinion that the move is based on my children having better opportunities in life, I'm not knocking the UK, I've enjoyed my travelling / working around just feel that things are better in Canada.

Here is my personal viewpoint of your above post, which I've split a little to make it easier to reply to.

A lot of people probably have second thoughts about moving to a different country.

Hubby may not enjoy his first job when he gets here as he's unskilled. Oh well, I guess he enjoyed his first UK job too! Getting a job is an important part of settling in for most people, it helps to make friends and you aren't stuck at home in a rut.

His age isn't really the problem, I know nothing of Turkish culture but it seems to me that he just doesn't want to make the effort to leave a country he feels comfortable in. He moved from Turkey and knows what it's like to move to a different pace of life.

If he moves reluctantly, then it'll make harder for all of you. If you don't move just because he doesn't want to, then you'll probably resent him. Either way, you both need to choose the same choice together, Canada or not.
