Hello everyone,
First post here so forgive any potential stupid questions.
I have been looking at Canada for a number of years and it really appeals to me, however as title suggests im a28 year old male, currently working for Merseyside Police in a staff role specialising in Visual Evidence, i was just wondering in regards to a Police civvy job in the UK does it hold any merit (transferrable skills/ high point pool numbers )to Canadian Police? If so what would be the route to take, as migrating on a working visa is risky and risky for my career
Thanks

Hi, welcome to BE.
I can't help at all, but a search of the forum should bring up some relevant threads. I don't believe any Canadian forces are recruiting internationally, so you'd need to qualify for a visa on your own merits - IEC is probably the easiest/quickest option as you're young enough.
Best of luck.

Ex-police here now back in UK but have some experience with Canada. You may find civilian jobs. Look at city of Calgary etc as the city themselves will recruit those type of roles. Police officer jobs are not available for international lateral transfers, but you may have more luck with civi roles.
As you would expect, it will be a lot harder finding a role in a new country vs someone moving internally / within forces within country as systems, way of working will be different.
If risk is a worry, then there may be a solution! Maybe see if career break is available with your force, take an IEC visa (working holiday) which will lessen risk to you and will facilitate a temporary move and knowledge that you can return back into old role.
On an IEC, it won't be so easy to find a professional role in Canada, as employers will know that you will be returning to UK after temp IEC visa expires but you may find there are options to learn and develop in a role in that time. Maybe look at joining International Police Association. Lots of Canadian members who you can reach out to.
