Hi - in reading the policies on the CIC site, they sometimes refer to a "designated class". Could someone explain what this is - and where I can find a description/definition of it on the CIC site?

I have been searching for further information both Spousal Applications and Employment Authorizations.

Thanks a million!

A designated class is just that. Any class of applicant that the = minister wishes to
designate as eligible for one thing or another.

The minister will designate a class to allow that type of applicant to = be landed
from within Canada or to be exempt from various requirements.

Where would I find out what "classes" the Minister has designated for this? Thanks a million for your help with this!

Take from website - http://www.cic.gc.ca/manuals-guides/english/FW-e/

Validation Exemption Categories
- Certain Persons described in 19(4)(e) who are on Minister’s Permit
---Regulation 20(5)(f): Persons who were members of a designated class immediately prior to arrival

In case the link doesn't work, it is taken from the CIC manual called "Temporary Foreign Worker Guidelines" - Chapter 3 - General Eligibility Criteria

Designated Classes refer to specific refugee-like situations for which specific
regulations are made. Jim Humphries, former visa officer

Am I to understand that "designated classes" usually only apply to refugee situations?

You can check the Act and Regulations.
