Flying from NL to UK

Hi there,
Has anyone done this recently? May be a silly question, but since NL is on UK's quarantine list, does that mean if we visited we would have to stay a minimum of the 14 days of self-isolation?
Our son is going to uni and we wanted to settle him in but not stay so long, may be only for a week. Is it possible to fly out again before the 14 days are up?
TIA

Hello and welcome,

Unfortunately you are correct, the UK is on the Netherlands 'Code orange' (emergency travel only) list too, so you/your son would have to (home) quarantine here too on arriving from Britain, but only for 10 days.

Sorry, I really wasn't clear, apologies. We are already here in the Netherlands but need to go to the UK just to help our son settle into his accommodation on campus. This really shouldn't take 14 days, so we wondered whether we could fly back to NL within, say, a week? Or have to stay in the UK for the full 14 days.

I don't think anyone thought of this scenario :) I don't think that anyone is keeping check on either side, if we are realistic. My son works central Amsterdam and it's packed full of British tourists at the moment, so I doubt they are observing any quarantine on either side. Perhaps it would be better to ask in the Back to the UK forum, for people already back there, to see if they've experienced any kind of checks when entering the UK recently?

Hi RWF. Well, we're here now in the UK. There doesn't seem to be any real teeth to the checking, though you do have to declare on a form where you have been and where you will stay and with whom. But it was clear from the form what we are planning to do and there was no fuss.
