Emergency BSN number?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as an emergency BSN number? We have applied for our BSN's but are awaiting our birth certificates to be legalised before we obtain our number.

Anyway we have bought a car as it is imperative to have a car for the journeys that we do but can not register the car until we have a BSN but a friend of ours said that you can request an emergency one which lasts for four months and within that four months you have to provide all of your documents and that number eventually will turn into your number?

It will take approx 4 weeks for our number to come through when ideally I need to purchase this car and use it next week.

Thanks all.

We are in Arnhem

you'll want to look into an RNI number:
Wat is de Registratie Niet-Ingezetenen (RNI)? | Vraag en antwoord | Rijksoverheid.nl

basically saying that you're temporarily here for less than 4 months,

We took a few months to obtain the legalised copies of our Birth Certs that the Council demanded - we just went back to the Council once we had them and they took copies. I think we had our BSN's within a week of the first meeting. That was in Nijmegen. Maybe Arnhem is stricter ...

We got our BSN numbers straight away in Amsterdam. We just had to take our birth certificates back when they were legalized.

Just waiting for our birth certificates to come back as they were not certified and then they said it will take about two weeks to process. It seems every city does something different!

you got that right, and I'd go even further to say that every employee at the gemeente does everything differently!

You're not wrong there - still not got mine stamped with the apostille after many years :) Your BSN does not require an apostille - call the nearest main tax office to you, and ask for an appointment, pretend you're a short-term resident ;) U blijft korter dan 4 maanden in Nederland

One thing gemeente staff all have in common - their left hand doesnt know what their right hand is doing (staying up to date with the rules is entirely optional, in their eyes).
