Buying propety In Amdterdam - advice

Hi
I am thinking of buying a property in Amsterdam, not really for renting but for anplscr to settle and live going forward. I am a UK national.

I would prefer buying an apartment in an older building, pre 1950s, ones with character and history, it doesnt have to be on the canal.

Can someone give me some good first hand advice if they have gone through the experience themselves.

Appreciate any info on this and on whether its a good idea to buy?

If you can afford anything in Amsterdam your a lucky person. You would need to be a millionaire to afford anything on the canals. Otherwise the process is no different to the UK.What is your particular worry ? Do you have a property in mind'? .

The word you need to be wary of is erfpacht. https://www.iamexpat.nl/housing/real...ip-netherlands

The apartment you buy in Amsterdam is held up above the water table and when those piles needs replacing . . . . it wouldn't hurt you to speak with an specialist expat estate agent. I can tell you who we used when we bought our home (freehold and outside Amsterdam centre) if you ask for it.

I was looking at a property, an OLD one, where the erfpacht expires in 2070. I asked the agent by email what the implications were but didn't get very far. The property isn't on a canal. Should one be worried by an impending ground lease expiration?
