Oh here I go again sharing my secrets on the internet - I never learn

I'm not a Yummy Mummy (god that expression makes me barf). I haven't had a boob job; I've had a tummy tuck.

I had it done in a Bupa hospital in the UK, performed by a top reconstructive surgeon. I ended up in an ambulance a week later, back in hospital for two weeks, a second operation once I was "well enough" to find out why I was spurting blood from my new belly button, cut open again, off work 3 months, and have a scar from hipbone to hipbone.

You want to go off on a cut-price surgery holiday to have one?

Shall I ask for some photos of the hack jobs done that have had to be repaired here then? Or how about some photos of the beautiful, exotic infections? Obviously they wouldn't give you names of actual patients, but if you are serious I will ask if either of the doctors I mentioned will speak to you.

I would never say don't do it, but I would say, it's a chuffing big operation, no surgery is to be undertaken lightly (there's anaesthetic involved, after all), and FFS go somewhere you get decent aftercare. Not somewhere you are taken back to your hotel room with drains hanging out of your flesh.

It's not like it is on Extreme Makeover - you don't head straight to the gym. I knew that, but I didn't expect to sleep sitting up with pillows under my knees for nearly two months.

Kelli, if you do go ahead with it, don't be tempted to get the booty done!

At bit off topic but that article mentions someone called Nicki Minaj. Saying that she's become almost as famous for her posterior as for her voice. Who the hell is she? I've never heard of her

I'll ask either plastics or infectious diseases whether they have any patients willing to talk to you.

My Dad had surgery in Thailand, it was both life saving & imminently necessary. That said he had full private health care in the U.K [BUPA worldwide] & still held a current Australian visa. He could have had surgery anywhere & chose Thailand as he was there at the time. The hospital was cleaner than many he's been in in the U.K [n.h.s & private] It was better than many Aussie ones though he hadn't experienced that many.
Don't believe the bunkum that they are dirty infectious set-ups they are as clean if not cleaner than any here. The surgeon that did my dad's op had worked extensively in both the U.S & the U.K.

Bumrungrad in Bangkok is a very well-respected international hospital. I know a few people who have been "on holiday" there.

I've also heard good things about Bangkok Hospital in Phuket (confusing name, I know).

I've had a lot of surgery and biopsies, etc. - only one cosmetic procedure - on 3 continents. Both times that I ended back in with infections/complications, it was a high level Bupa hospital in the UK. My theory is, they clean them like hotels and not hospitals. After my tummy tuck complications I can remember having blood-soaked towels in the bathroom for 2 days. The third time I had surgery in a private hospital in the UK, I refused to have a bath until I got home; the Matron said she understood perfectly.

My views on having major cosmetic surgery, not life-saving emergency surgery, anywhere other than a short distance from your home, in case of complications, still stand.
