For bling on the GC you can't go further than Palazzo Versace. I've not eaten there - not done any expensive, push the boat out meals since we've been here - but have heard good things of it.
The other one that springs to mind is Oskars at Burleigh - supposed to be fab. Was hoping to go for my birthday but hubby didn't pick up the hints and we went for an indian instead which was fab but not 'special'. You may or may not get down here whilst in Brissie, but thought I mention them anyway

Oskars is right on the beach and angled towards Surfers so it's a fab view day or night.

It's in St Kilda-a friend of mine raves about this place and she is one of the most particular people I know as regards eating out so if she likes the place it must be AMAZING

Still the best steak I have had in Australia (and I have done most of the best places in Brisbane) the Wagyu was absolutely perfect. The brother in law also had the Kobe (but he was living on pounds) which was devine.

Does that include Breakfast Creek Hotel? When we lived in Brissie it was just across the road and we never were disappointed.
Gold Coast. The best Italian we have found is Trio Romano at Mermaid Beach - booking essential. Best seafood, Sheraton seafood buffet (expensive but incredible) also some friends of ours have just opened a restaurant on Tedder Avenue looks good and we are having our staff xmas bash there in December - I will report on it after!!

Yep includes the Brekkie Creek, Char Char Char and the Norman (which all do decent steaks) but nothing has matched the Wagyu at Moo Moo.

We are spoilt for choice in Melbourne, we really are. Some of the prices are quite reasonable as well. I can't work out how I've missed the Interlude as I've been to lots of restaurants in Brunswick st over the years.
Our next meal out, is with work this friday night, As good as it gets from the ethnic type of cuisine, with one of our workmates pulling in a favour from their old freind Abla, which I take to mean we are going to be well looked after.

BTW I'd like to hear from someone that has been to Rockpool as I've heard mixed reports on it.

You're right - we are spoilt for choice in Melb and no it doesn't always have to cost an arm and a leg. We are currently working our way thru "Cheap Eats". We too favour alot of places in High St, Brunswick St, Sydney Road, etc. The money I used to spend on clothing in the UK I now spend on eating out!

Been to Rockpool on several occasions and the food and service has always been good. However, I do tend to stick to the same starter (four tastes of the sea) and usually a steak for main course. Not big into desert so cannot comment but they always look great.

1) Indus in Paddington (Brisbane) for Indian ... the location isn't much but the food is great.
2) Mount Coo-tha Restaurant = "Wow, that's expensive and over-rated".

Re: Your favourite 3 restaurants with the Wow factor.
Has to be Birches at Mt. Mee, Spice Avenue at Birkdale for an English Indian and used to be Picnics at Yandener on Sunshine Coast (anyone know where they've gone???).
My bling loving Daughter is coming back for a holiday next March. I've decided to up the anti on London v Melbourne, by taking her and her new upmarket Pommy Partner (bad girl) to what I consider are the best Restaurants in Town. I'd like to hear from others as to what they consider are the best restaurants in their town.... Cost no object. We will almost certainly be all going to Sydney and Brisbane, or perhaps just one other city. Theres a chance we may go to Adelaide as well. So heres a challenge. name the 3 Restaurants in your town, that you think would rock the socks of a international visitor. I'd like to hear from Perth as well, because the wife and I may visit there in 18months on our own, will be staying with friends, and would like to treat them to a night out.
Heres my Nominations, Luckily I've been to all 3, ( although only once over a long timescale) so have a fair Idea of what I'm on about.
Cafe La, 35 floors up, floor to ceiling windows, Opulent and substantial, with a world class bar adjacent at the atrium. A sense stretching introduction to Melbourne for someone that may consider they have seen it all before.

Vlados Richmond, with a well deserved reputation as the best steak Restaurant in Melbourne, and probably Australia. Presidents and A listers tend to visit, I think I may have to book this one 3 months in Advance.

The Botanical, down in South Yarra, I used to go here when it was more of a pub than a restaurant. I just know it gets rave reviews and have an idea its more of a high class family restaurant than anything else. Great location for a post Botanical gardens walk. Great choices on the Menu. Relaxed atmosphere, great for interstaters that want to know the vibe that personifies Melbourne.

There you go, That should satisfy the most worldly of visitors.
Whats your favorite quality Restaurant.
