So to get a realistic picture for those who are wavering what do you intend to do & do you agree with the percentages being bandied about?

There are some real figures somewhere on the immigration site. Can't really be bothered looking for it though.

I'm staying, and will never go back (not even to visit people).

I know I'm quick. Even with crappy dial-up I can still get in the first answer

Really can't be bothered 'googling' right now. I may do later though

Well, up to now we are in the category of will go back for funerals, maybe later on in a few years we will go for a holiday, but I can't see (at this moment in time) that we will ever go back for good.

But then I have been here less than 6 months - who knows what the future holds

For anyone wanting to analyise the arrivals/departures etc here's the link http://www.immi.gov.au/media/statist.../oad/index.htm

I really can't be arsed trying to make sense of it all, but last year 23,290 settlers arrived from the UK and 5,353 people permanently departed Australia who came originally from the UK. This is made up of the following:

Less than 2 years: 1026
2 - 3 years: 386
3 - 4 years: 250
4 - 5 years: 238
5+ years: 3399
Not stated: 54

If we say that half of the 1026 who had been here less than 2 years, left permanently within the first year then 22,777 stayed last year from 23,290 arrivals.

So just over 2% returned back to the UK last year, within 12 months of migrating
